BRUNSWICK — Mark Roma’s regular-season coaching debut at Brunswick was a success as the Dragons opened the boys high school soccer Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference season with a 5-0 victory over Oxford Hills on Friday at Peter Gardner Field.
Konnor Scarponi had two goals for Brunswick (1-0), with Ryan Black, Cam Glover and Blake Gordon chipping in one goal each. Scarponi dished out a pair of helpers, with Gordon and Ian Burgess picking up one assist apiece.
In goal, Greg Walton registered the shutout with six saves.
Oxford Hills goaltender Jake Beauchesne had 11 stops for the 0-1 Vikings.
Brunswick is slated to host Erskine Academy today at 3:30 p.m.

The host Windjammers jumped out to a 3-0 first-half lead and never looked back in a season-opening KVAC Class B victory on Friday.
Trueman Moore scored a pair of goals to lead Camden Hills (1-0). The Windjammers fired 25 shots, with Morse (0- 1) goaltender Grady Madden making six saves in the first half and Duane Tardif playing the second half and turning aside eight.
Marshall Spear had two saves for Camden Hills.
Morse is set to host Maranacook Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
WISCASSET 2

In Mountain Valley Conference play on Saturday, Dale Peaslee scored off an assist from Jennings Souza in the second overtime for the 2-1 win for Wiscasset.
Peaslee’s game-winner came with 3:55 left.
Carrabec opened scoring as Taylor Knowles scored off a feed from Hunter Williams five minutes into the game.
Souza tied the game for Wiscasset, scoring off a direct kick from 20 yards out at the 25:51 mark.
In goal for Carrabec was Trent Richardson (six saves), while in net for Wiscasset was Nat Mills, who recorded two stops. Wiscasset had 14 shots, while Carrabec had eight.
Wiscasset (1-0) is scheduled to host Mt. Abram today.

In Western Maine Conference action on Friday, Brandon Metevier scooted down his left sideline and buried a shot to the far post past lunging Freeport goaltender Brendan Qualls with 2:09 left in the second half to lift visiting Traip.
Freeport (0-1 and scheduled to host Greely this afternoon) got on the board first at 7:30 of the opening half on a goal by Connor Dietrich, and Traip’s Ralph Humiston made it 1-1 on a corner kick.
In the seond half, Zach Merrill scored for the Falcons and Evan Pereira scored for the visitors.
VALLEY 1
RICHMOND 6
Richmond spotted Valley an early goal and then posted six first-half scores en route to an East-West Conference opening win on Friday.
Carrington Miller’s long cross found the back of the net at 11:45 to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. “I think that woke us up,” said Richmond coach Joe Scribellito.
Brett Stillwell got the Bobcats (scheduled to host Buckfield Wednesday at 5 p.m., a change from the original schedule) when he converted a Randy Moody feed a minute later, and Eddie Stewart notched the first of his three goals at the 14-minute mark.
Stewart (Curtis Anderson) made to 3-1 24 minutes in, and Sam Lorbeski scored off a Stewart feed four minutes later.
Moody (Xavier Trask) scored at the 33-minute mark and Stewart (Trask) scored again three minutes later.
“We were able to put everyone on the field. which is good in an opener,” said Scribellito, who praised the all-around play of freshmen Mike Stewart and Tyler Soucy, and sophomore Cameron Emmons.
The Bobcats led in shots (31-6) and corner kicks (6-1), with Marcus Blake (two saves) and Dustin Sullivan (three) splitting time in goal.
