AUGUSTA — The Christian Civic League of Maine is encouraging like-minded individuals to join hundreds of pro-life Mainers at the annual “Hands Around the Capitol” on Saturday, Jan. 12.
The day’s events begin at 10 a.m. with a prayer service at RiverRock Christian Fellowship in Chelsea or a Mass at St. Mary’s Church in Augusta.
At 11:15 a.m. there will be a rally at St. Michael’s gymnasium, and Gov. LePage is expected to attend. Participants walk to the Capitol building at 12:15 p.m. for the start of Hands Around the Capitol. The Capitol bell will ring 40 times, representing the number of years since abortion was legalized. More than 55 million babies have been aborted.
At 1:30 p.m. there will be a reception at the Christian Civic League Headquarters, 70 Sewall St.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
