TOPSHAM
A Topsham man was transported to Maine Medical Center after falling asleep at the wheel Thursday night while driving home on River Road.
Sgt. Mark Gilliam of Topsham Police Department said the crash occurred at around 6:20 p.m. on River Road about 0.25 miles beyond Topsham Fair Mall Road, just beyond the railroad tracks. Gilliam said Joshua Justice, 21 of Topsham was driving a 2007 Pontiac and fell asleep. The car left the roadway, went down into a gully and came to rest on an embankment, causing the airbags to deploy.
Justice, the sole occupant, sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland by Topsham Fire and Rescue.
The Pontiac sustained heavy front-end damage and was totaled, Gilliam said.
No charges were filed.
