Emergency personnel rescued a woman from her car after she crashed and became stranded in a shallow pond Wednesday.
The incident occurred on Rowe Court, off Main Street south of Holbrook Street, a few minutes after 9 p.m., when the woman, whose name was not released, accidentally drove her car into the water and got mired.
“It’s a pond that’s been there for a number of years and, fortunately, that area was quite shallow, only about three inches of water,” Freeport Fire Chief Darrell Fournier said. “She wasn’t hurt but she was unable to get out.”
The woman, who lives in the area, Fournier said, honked the car’s horn to get neighbors’ attention. The neighbors saw what had happened and called police.
An ambulance, ladder truck and fire engine were sent to the scene. Rescue personnel retrieved the woman and evaluated her at the scene. Unhurt, she returned to her nearby home.
A wrecker pulled the car from the pond.
