BANGOR — Grace MacLean scored three goals, including one off a direct kick, to power the top-ranked Bangor Rams girls high school soccer team by No. 8 Mt. Ararat 4-2 Tuesday in an Eastern Maine Class A quarterfinal matchup.
Bangor improved to 14-1 and will face No. 5 Mt. Blue (9-5-1) in semifinal action on Saturday.
Mt. Ararat closed out at 10-6 and loses seniors Sonja Robert, Sydni Clark, Chelsea Crawford, Celia Ouellette, Maddison Prescott and Kristi Willey to graduation.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a direct kick. Two goals by MacLean made it 2-1 at the half. Her first goal was a direct kick from 22 yards and her second was assisted by Mary Butler.
Bangor made it 3-1 early in the second half on an unassisted goal by MacLean when she was able to get around the goalie and fire into an empty net.
Mt. Ararat made it 3-2 off a corner shot with 12 minutes left. Anna Marie Dagher quickly answered for the Rams to end the game at 4-2.
Cordelia Stewart finished with six saves on eight shots for the 14-1 Rams.
Michelle Pelletier and Lauren Williams combined to make 13 saves on 19 shots for Mt. Ararat.
