To the Editor:
As a lifelong Mainer who has had the opportunity to work with hundreds of local, state and federal government officials over the years, I respectfully urge Topsham voters to re-elect Don Russell as our selectman.
Don has the experience, intellect, temperament and work ethic to serve you extremely well. He has served Topsham over the years in almost every capacity imaginable including terms on the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Comprehensive Plan Committee, School Board, Topsham Annex Redevelopment Authority and Board of Selectmen.
Simply put, you could not ask for better local knowledge or experience. Further, Don does his homework, is respectful of all opinions and always handles himself in a professional and dignified manner. He is seasoned enough to not waste time on approaches that have failed in the past, but is open minded enough to try new things.
Having had the privilege of serving with Don, I can attest that his professionalism and approach is contagious, and that he makes the entire group better. He understands that growth is inevitable and welcome, but that it must be properly managed. After seeking out the facts, Don will let you know where he stands and why, and will make decisions in the best interest of all of Topsham.
In my experience, you cannot ask for more in a public official. Please join me in keeping Topsham moving forward by voting for Don Russell for selectman.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
