Twenty Freeport High School teachers shaved their faces six weeks ago and created a contest among students to raise money for Freeport Community Services fuel assistance fund as part of the annual Freeze Out campaign.
The teachers took photos before and midway through their facial hair growth. Students collected money in jars with the teacher photo attached to the jar. The one with the most money won.

Geoff Dyhrberg was the junior class mascot and got publicly shaved on stage during the winter carnival. Julia Perry, a stylist at Salon Freeport, donated her time and talents.
The event was part of a 24- hour fundraiser that raised about $12,000 and collected 800 pounds of food.
Last year the Freeze Out raised $11,000 and about 400 pounds of food.
The event was first organized by the First Parish Church. The heating program provides $200 vouchers to families and the food pantry serves about 150 families.
