BRUNSWICK
Sequestration has begun — at least in Brunswick.
The March meeting of the Restoration Advisory Board for the former Naval Air Station Brunswick has been postponed in part due to sequestration, according to a memo from a U.S. Navy official distributed to the media today.
Paul F. Burgio of the Philadelphia-based Base Realignment and Closure Program Management Office said in his memo that the March meeting of the Restoration Advisory Board would be postponed because automatic of federal spending cuts known as sequestration, “which looks like a certainty at this time.”
Burgio said he canceled the meeting in part because the menu of federal cuts “severely restricts travel, unless mission critical.” He also cited personal health issues.
The mission of the Base Realignment and Closure Program Management Office is “to expeditiously and cost effectively provide all services necessary to realign, close and dispose of (closed military) properties through sound business management practices and transformational thinking.”
Friday is the latest deadline for Congress to act to avoid the drastic cuts.
