C ombining fun and fundraising, the
Brunwick Downtown Association is hosting its second “Celebrate Your Inner Diva” event Friday night.
The 21-and-over event will take place from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus hall, located at 2 Columbus Drive, off Mason Street, in Brunswick.
“It was such a great success last year and everyone had such a great time,” said BDA Executive Director Debora King about why the event is back again this year. “It’s sort of a kickoff into spring — after an especially long cold winter.
“It’s an opportunity for females in the community to put on their sparklies and have a good time,” she added, “and get ready to enjoy what we hope to be a season of warmer climes.”
The event will feature divalicious specialty cocktails, hors d’oeuvres by the Brunswick Hotel and Tavern, music, samples and shoppping for cosmetics, hair products, jewelry, chocolate, demonstrations, a cash bar, and door prizes and raffles. King said there are 10 more vendors than the inaugural event.
A new highlight for this year’s event is a purse auction.
“We’ve got a fabulous purse auction,” King said. “We’ve got everything from new purses, to vintage to gently used. There are Cole Haan, Dooney & Bourke, just great purses.”
Also new this year, King said, boas for everyone in attendance and lounge areas.
“Everyone who walks in the door will be given a boa; that’s sort of uniting,” she said. “We’ve got a couple of vendors bringing in divans and settees and armchairs. It’s going to be great, it’s going to be decorated to the hilt.
“The photo booth is new this year; we’ve got many, many door prizes and raffles and opportunities for folks to sample products,” King added, “and things will be for sale.”
Though the focus of “Celebrate Your Inner Diva” is on fun, the event also raises money for the BDA’s future events and initiatives.
“Supporting the BDA means supporting the downtown in our efforts to make our community a better place to live,” King said. “A lot of the funding will be going to events we have coming up.
“We appreciate folks support of the events we plan, and we hope they’ll participate and support us (on Friday),” she added. “It’s a great opportunity to come out and have some fun. It’s a chance for friends or co-workers to come together, for people to be a part of something that’s really designed to simply be fun.”
The BDA is working with the winner of the Southern Midcoast Maine Chamber Young Entrepreneur award winner, Chloe Headley, to plan the event. Headley, a senior at Mt. Ararat High School, has an event-planning business, Bash, and worked with the BDA on its auction.
“We’ve hired her again to help us with this event,” King said.
