WEST BATH
The Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department has made one arrest and is seeking a second suspect in the theft of wire from a State Road parking lot.
Chief Deputy Brett Strout said the theft was reported to the sheriff ’s department Nov. 6 and is believed to have occurred over the previous night.
Strout said thieves stole two spools of 400-foot, halfinch diameter rubber-coated cable attached to a crane belonging to Reed and Reed of Woolwich, valued at $20,000. The crane was being stored in a large paved lot on State Road.
Strout said the investigation led to Higgins Drive in West Bath, where they located the wire. Strout said the suspects may have been after the copper inside, but the cable had only a very thin strand of copper and the rest was heavy insulation.
Arrested Thursday was Corey Clavette, 21, of Higgins Drive in West Bath.
Clavette was charged with felony theft, Strout said, and posted $500 bail. The sheriff ’s department is looking for another suspect and Strout said Monday the case is still under investigation.
