WOOLWICH
Reed and Reed has been awarded a $13 million Navy contract for structural work on berths at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery.
The announcement was made Wednesday afternoon by U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, D-1st District, a member of the House Armed Services Committee.
“This is great news because it means putting Maine people to work and making sure the facilities in Kittery are maintained and upgraded so they can maintain their reputation for efficiency and high quality work,” Pingree said.
She said Woolwich-based Reed and Reed “is a great company with an excellent reputation and I’m glad they will be able to put their skills to work at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.”
The contract will help stabilize and strengthen repair berths and remove more than 1,000 feet of unused railroad track.
The contract includes options which, if exercised, could increase the value of the contract to more than $16 million.
The work is expected to be completed by the fall of 2014, Pingree said.
