LEWISTON — The Bates College women’s tennis team scored its first home win of the season on Saturday, defeating NEWMAC semifinalist Mount Holyoke College, 9-0 in a non-conference match in Merrill Gymnasium.
Bates (2-3) swept doubles play with two-game victories at both second and third doubles, then swept all six singles matches in two sets apiece.
Bobcats junior Maisie Silverman of Brunswick teamed with Kate Rosenthal at No. 1 doubles and won 9-7 over Mount Holyoke’s Ayame Yazawa and Ching- Ching Huang.
At No. 1 singles, Silverman rolled to a 6-2, 6-3 win over Yazawa.
Bates will open New England Small College Athletic Conference play this upcoming Saturday at Middlebury, beginning at 1 p.m.
