FREEPORT — For the ninth year in a row, Azure Café Maine is preparing a free Thanksgiving meal for residents in Freeport, Pownal and the surrounding area.
This year, many of the turkeys are being donated by supporters of Wolfe’s Neck Farm.
Azure owner Jonas Werner said he originally hosted the meal in his restaurant but, as attendance grew, the meal was moved to the Freeport Community Services banquet hall.
Azure Executive Chef Chris Bassett has volunteered his time and skills every Thanksgiving since the meal began. This year, he is preparing to serve over 150 free meals, some to be delivered.
Those wishing to attend are asked to make reservations by calling 865-3985.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
