It’s time to start cleaning out any medications (prescription or overthe counter) you no longer need or want to dispose of. BUT, please don’t “flush” any medications into our water systems (thus polluting the water) or throw them in the trash to end up in landfills seeping into soils and ground waters.
There is an opportunity for proper disposal of any medications on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It may be the last U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency-funded disposal of any unneeded medications in Maine.
In this area, collections will be held at: The McLellan House in Brunswick, West Bath Fire Department, Harpswell Town Office, Topsham Town Office and Richmond Senior Center.
Check www.merrymeetingbaytriad.org for further information and watch for reminders, but now is the time to begin gathering these meds for proper disposal. The collection is carried out by local law enforcement agencies, several partner agencies such as People Plus, Midcoast Health Centers, TRIAD volunteers, and U.S. DEA.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
