Republican Gov. Paul LePage is administering the oath of office today to representatives and senators elected Nov. 6.
Democrats won back majorities in the House and Senate, which were in Republican hands for the last two years.
In a series of largely ceremonial events, the new lawmakers will elect their presiding officers and later the attorney general, secretary of state, treasurer and auditor.
Because Democrats now have a legislative majority, their candidates for those offices are virtually assured of winning o n Wednes- day. They include Matthew Dunlap for secretary of state, Janet Mills for attorney general, Neria Douglass for treasurer and Pola Buckley for auditor.
Swearing-in of House, Senate members is at 10 a.m.; election of constitutional officers is 2 p.m.
