
The first of two “Battle of the Bridge” games between the teams was decided from long distance, as the Dragons nailed five 3-pointers in the first half. Inside, Brad Smith scored 13 points and pulled down 15 rebounds as Brunswick outrebounded the 3-2 Eagles by 17 caroms.
Brunswick jumped out to a 22-14 first-quarter lead, and the advantage grew to 15 points, 39-24 at the half.
Behind Shyheim Ulrickson, who found his touch in the second half to lead Mt. Ararat with 18 points, the Eagles clawed within eight on a few occasions in the second half, but the Dragons held on to win their second straight.
Derek Devereaux chipped in 12 points for Brunswick, while James Bandouveres added eight.
Mt. Ararat, which visits Cony on Thursday, received 10 points from Alex Lapierre and eight from Jason Tome and Mason Griffin.
SPRUCE MTN. 46 WISCASSET 73
Dylan McMahon and Dale Peaslee each recorded a double double to lead Wiscasset to a Mountain Valley Conference win on Friday.
McMahon had 18 points and 14 rebounds to pace Wiscasset, which posted quarter leads of 12-10, 31-25 and 47-34. Peaslee finished with 13 points and 10 caroms, Austin Haskell and Travis Padilla popped for 11 points each, and JD Souza finished with 10.
“We’re starting out by not digging ourselves a big hole, and our confidence is getting stronger,” said Wiscasset coach Dana Lawrence, whose squad is 4-1 and visits Dirigo on Jan. 3.
Padilla dished out five assists, while Haskell had six steals and four assists. Wiscasset was 29-of-36 from the charity stripe.
John McKenna and Tyler Kachnovich had nine points each for Spruce Mountain (3- 3), which finished eight of 11 at the foul line.
CARRABEC 43 LISBON 75
In MVC makeup action on Saturday, the host Greyhounds outscored Carrabec 29-13 in the second quarter en route to a win.
Lisbon improved to 2-4 and is scheduled to host Monmouth on Jan. 5.
“We just switched up our trapping defense and was able to force some turnovers,” said Lisbon coach Jake Gentle, whose charges were tied at 10 after one quarter, led 39-23 at the half and 56-28 after three periods.
Tucker Brannon led the way with 21 points, while Brad Groh added 12 and Kendal Roy eight.
Richard Hayton nailed four 3-pointers and finished with 12 points for Carrabec.
At the foul line, Lisbon was 15 of 23 and Carrabec three of nine.
