JOHN ATWOOD, LEFT, PRESENTS Roy Farmer with a “By a Maine River” book as a token of thanks for his years of service to the Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association.
The Roy Farmer Associates/Carleton Group real estate firm is sponsoring the Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association’s trout brook preserve in Alna with a $500 donation.

The annual donation supports maintenance of the kiosk and the parking lot, as well as staff time needed to oversee volunteer efforts in maintaining the trails, the company said in a news release.

The Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association acquired the preserve in three transactions from 2005 to 2007. The property includes thousands of feet of frontage on picturesque Trout Brook and on the Sheepscot River and features two hiking trails that lead to the rolling and otherwise difficult-to-access interior of the property along the brook.

“I think I’ve been a member of SVCA since its beginning,” said Roy Farmer, a longtime SVCA member recently retired from the association’s Lands Committee “I’ve always supported it, and adoption of this beautiful and centrally located preserve is a way for our firm to continue that support.”

Roy Farmer Associates, which has been operating in the Wiscasset area for many years, was acquired by Carleton Group in 2009.

Nancy Carleton said the company covers Bath, Phippsburg, West Bath, Arrowsic, Georgetown and Woolwich, “and now the Wiscasset branch office gives the company a reach along the coast from Brunswick to Boothbay and Bristol; and inland to Topsham, Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Alna and Dresden.”

Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association — a member organization advocating shared stewardship of Maine’s 58-mile Sheepscot River since 1969 — has seven public preserves, in Alna, Jefferson, Newcastle, Palermo and Whitefield. More than 3,569 acres and 15 miles of riverfront are protected within the group’s purview.
