A bill to guarantee local representation on the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority Board of Directors came out of committee hearings Friday deadlocked at six votes each for and against.

State Sen. John Cleveland, D–New Gloucester, represents the swing vote. He has until 5 p.m. today to break the tie.

As of The Times Record’s morning press deadline, Cleveland had yet to arrive in Augusta, and attempts to reach him were unsuccessful.

Rep. Mattie Daughtry, D–Brunswick, submitted the bill, which underwent a public hearing May 13 and further deliberation by the Joint Standing Committee on Labor, Commerce, Research and Economic Development Friday afternoon.

The committee’s recommendation is weighted, but nonbinding. If Cleveland votes “ought to pass,” the bill — LD 1476 — would move forward to full House consideration, followed by a full Senate vote. If not, the bill still could make it to a floor vote.
