Bowdoin College, the town of Brunswick, and Curtis Memorial Library invite Brunswick residents to hit the books.

According to a letter from Bowdoin College President Barry Mills, the town and college have established a collaborative community read partnership. Participants are asked to join in reading “Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America” by Barbara Ehrenreich.

Mills wrote that discussions of the book, planned for late January, will focus on issues of “class and economic differences” and will be part of a week-long series of campus events called “Beyond the Bowdoin Hello.”

In that book, Eherenreich takes a trip to different states in the U. S. — including Maine — taking odd and lowwage jobs and documenting what it takes to get by on that pay.

Mills wrote that the book will be available to borrow starting today at Curtis Memorial Library and the Bowdoin College Library.

The book also will be on sale at Gulf of Maine Books on Maine Street, the College Store at Brunswick Station, the Bowdoin Bookstore in Smith Union, the Bowdoin Store website.
