BATH — On June 9, the Naval Sea Cadet Corps, a youth group centered in Bath, will hold its first Jason Dunham (DDG-109) Division Golf Tournament at Bath Golf Club.
The Jason L. Dunham (DDG-109) Division, NSCC, is housed at the Winter Street Center. Its mission is to encourage, in cooperation with the Department of the Navy, an interest and skills in basic seamanship and to teach patriotism, leadership and more, in a drug- and gang-free environment.
The June 9 golf tournament will be the Cadet Corps’ big fundraiser for the year.
“We hope you will be a part of it,” said Commanding Officer Judith Jones. “There are various levels of donation; ‘hole sponsors’ will be the bulk of the fundraising. The name of your business will be posted at one of the nine holes played in the tournament, and printed in the program.”
Hole sponsorship will be $100 per sign.
“With your sponsorship comes an invitation to attend the tournament, have a table to showcase your business, mingle with folks and enjoy the barbecue and awards ceremony after the game,” Jones said. “If you are a golf player, find a team of four and enter to win the tournament yourself.”
The Naval Sea Cadet Corps has a strong history with the surrounding community and with Bath Iron Works.
Last autumn, they were on hand when the Michael Murphy DDG-112 sailed down the Kennebec River. The cadets visited Brunswick veterans in November. They helped place lanterns in Bath during the holiday season and took part in Bath’s Memorial Day “We Remember” service.
“Thank you in advance for helping to create productive, community-minded young people,” Jones said. “We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to make a difference in our community. Mid-coast Maine is a wonderful place to grow up and live in. The Naval Sea Cadet Corps is a youth group that is fortunate to call Bath its home.”
