
Brunswick police report the body of a man was recovered from the water near Brick Island in Bowdoinham shortly before noon Sunday.
At 10:07 a.m., Brunswick police personnel, Brunswick Fire Department and Maine State Marine Patrol launched boats into the Androscoggin River to recover a reported floating body from the water, according to Sgt. Russ Wrede, who in a press release wrote, “Initial indications are that the death is not suspicious.”
At approximately 11:41 a.m., police located and retrieved the body of a man in his 30s near Brick Island in Bowdoinham.
Brick Island is located in Merrymeeting Bay.
The body was taken to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta for further investigation.
“Members of the Brunswick Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division are assisting the Medical Examiner’s Office, and the man’s identity will be released once the identity is confirmed and the family is notified,” Wrede said.
The release further states, “The Brunswick Police Department wishes to thank the efforts of all the responding fire department and Marine Patrol personnel.”
