The City Council will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Monday to consider second passage of a proposed six-month extension of a moratorium on “Smart Meters” in Bath.
Councilors voted 5-4 on Dec. 7 to approve first passage of the extension, which is due to expire Monday. Newly elected council chairman David Sinclair then scheduled Monday’s meeting to allow councilors to consider second passage before the moratorium expires.
The original moratorium, approved June 2, blocks Central Maine Power from installing the meters without advance permission from individual property owners.
Following Monday’s special meeting, the council will hold a workshop to discuss council representatives to committees. The meeting and workshop will take place at Bath City Hall.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
