Members of the Long Reach Swim Club of the Bath Area Family YMCA recently competed in the YMCA National Championships.
Morse High School swimmer Olivia Harper became the fifth individual national champion for LRSC, taking first in the 100 backstroke in a state record time of 53.71.
Harper joins LRSC national champions Abbie King, James Wells, Caitlin Tycz and Nate Samson.
It’s the second straight year that members of the LRSC have brought home a national title. Last season, the 200 freestyle relay team of Tycz, Ann Tolan, Ella Martin and Harper captured first at nationals.
Also at the 2018 championships, Gabby Low of the Kennebec Valley YMCA of Augusta placed third in the 100 backstroke.
From LRSC, the 200 free relay squad of Harper, Martin, Margie McLeod and Haily Harper finished in 1:37.70, good for 35th place. The boys 200 relay team was 42nd out of 64 teams in 1:27.94.
