BRUNSWICK

Brunswick Public Art invites the community to join in celebration of the installation of a sculpture at Brunswick Station today between 5 and 7 p.m.

“Haven” is a gift to the town of Brunswick from Brunswick Public Art and was created by sculptor Miles Chapin, an Arrowsic native who now lives in Vermont.

The large sculpture is carved from a block of American Black granite. It weighs about 4,000 pounds and will rest on a base of Barre Grey granite weighing about 7,560 pounds.

Chapin’s sculptures are currently on exhibit at the Artemis Gallery in Northeast Harbor, June LaCombe Scuplture at Hawk Ridge Farm in Pownal and at the Southern Vermont Art Center in Manchester.

His work has been shown throughout Maine at the Coastal Maine Botanical Garden in Boothbay, Maine Audubon in Falmouth, the Turtle Gallery in Deer Isle, and Viles Arboretum in Augusta. Several pieces are in private collections.
