WOOLWICH — A skunk caused a crash Saturday morning on River Road in Woolwich, police said.

The crash in the area of 612 River Road was reported at 10:38 a.m., Sagadahoc County Chief Deputy Brett Strout said.

Jenny Howes, 41, of Woolwich, was driving a 2003 Saturn north on Route 128 and when she crested a hill, was startled by a skunk on the roadway and went off the road and into some trees.

Strout said Howes sustained some facial injuries and was transported to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. The skunk did not survive.
