The Federal Government now requires all participants to re-apply every year.
Many Lifeline customers have received an application/re-certification form but have not returned it to Fairpoint. If you do not submit the re-application form, Fairpoint may discontinue your discount and increase your billing rate — retroactive to January 2013.
To re-apply for the Lifeline discounted rates, you may call Fairpoint at 1-866-984-2001.
This is a confusing issue and needs to be addressed. You may call Spectrum Generations representative Craig Patterson at 729-0757 (People Plus) for assistance.
Merrymeeting Bay TRIAD in partnership with People Plus and Spectrum Generations is also providing support and will assist in this matter. For more information on this topic visit our website at www.merrymeetingbaytriad.org.
Also, stay tuned for a notice about an upcoming Informational session on the Lifeline Discount Telephone Program to be held at People Plus.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
You can read more here about our commenting policy and terms of use. More information is also found on our FAQs.
