With Saturday’s forecast predicting mostly sun, this year’s Woolwich Day will take place Saturday, Aug. 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where families and residents can partake in ths fun, community event that will appeal to all ages.

According to Collette Coombs, event coordinator, this annual tradition has continued for about 21 years, sponsored by the Recreational Committee and the Woolwich Historical Society, both of which Coombs is a member.

Registration for the Bob Meade Classic Road Race will begin at 7 a.m. at the Waterfront Park. Participants can pre-register for the 10k race for $10, or sign up the day of for $12. The entry fee for the 1 Mile Fun Run, for children ages 14 and under, is $5. Walkers for the 10k and Fun Run participants will start at 8 a.m.; 10k runners will start at 9 a.m.

Blessing of the Animals will take place this year at the Nequasset Meeting House, and pet owners are encouraged to bring their pets, with Rev. Alan Baughcum from Day’s Ferry Congregational Church leading the ceremony at 10 a.m. According to Coombs, this particular tradition has always been well received by the community.

In the afternoon, the Woolwich Historical Society will be hosting a book sale and a bake sale, with hot dogs, hamburgers and lemonade available as well. The museum will also be open for free tours.

The organization will also be hosting a raffle, which includes prizes like a train ride, a lobster boat ride, certificates to the Taste of Maine restaurant, Plant’s Seafood and others. The Woolwich Recreational Committee will also be hosting a silent auction at that time.

A water slide, provided by the Woolwich Fire Department Auxiliary, a bounce house and a balloon artist will be available for children to enjoy.

This year’s event will also feature an Elvis Presley impersonator who will be performing at the Nequasset Meetinghouse at 1 p.m.

Coombs hoped families and community members would come out to enjoy Saturday’s activities.

“We just wanted the community to get together and have a good time and give back to the community,” she said.

Woolwich Day will take place at the municipal complex on 13 Nequasset Road.
