AUGUSTA — Maine’s 25-day deer hunting season is getting under way.

The firearms season starts for Maine residents today and for non-residents on Monday. The season ends the Saturday following Thanksgiving, Nov. 27.

Maine’s game department has issued nearly 49,000 any-deer permits for the regular season.

The muzzleloader season will begin on Nov. 29 and end Dec. 4 or 11, depending on the district. Crossbow archery season will coincide with modern firearms.
