CUMBERLAND — George Doolan of Freeport and Will Kannegieser of Minot shot the low scores of the day Tuesday in the first round of the Maine Junior Championships, shooting two over par 73s to take the lead in the 15-17- year-old championship division.

They have a one-shot lead over Drew Powell and Luke Ruffing going into today’s final round of the 36-hole championship at the Val Halla Golf Course.

From the Mid-coast region, Chris Billings of Topsham shot a 79 and Tyler O’Connor of the Brunswick Golf Club came in at 86.

Meanwhile, in the boys 13-14-year-old division, Cole Anderson of Camden has a two shot lead over Eric Dugas of Pittsfield and Tyler Walker of Bridgton. Anderson is at 78 while Dugas and Walker are tied at 80.

Adam White of Lisbon carded a 109.

In the girls’ divisions, 13-year-old Bailey

Plourde of Newcastle leads all players as she shot 82. Val Halla plays at a par 72 for women and a par 71 for men.

While Plourde leads all girls, Jenna Hallett — all the way from Presque Isle — is leading in the 15-17 division with an 86. In all, there are nine girls in the field this year.

While the big kids played 18 holes, the 12-and-under players played nine holes off the back nine in their flight.

Thomas Higgins of Cape Elizabeth shot a 39 for a six-shot lead over three players — Matt Brown of Clinton, Max Altznauer from Cape Elizabeth and Evan Glicos from Windham.

Caleb Manuel to Topsham shot a 47, while Samson O’Donnell of the Freeport Country Club shot a 66.
