BRUNSWICK — There’s just over a week left of Maine State Music Theatre’s 55th summer season of professional musical theater. The final of four productions is Cameron Mackintosh and Disney’s family favorite, “Mary Poppins,” which opened on at Pickard Theater on Aug. 7. It continues through Saturday, Aug. 24.

With a book by Julian Fellowes (of Downton Abbey fame), Mary Poppins features the film’s familiar music and lyrics by the Academy Award winning Sherman Brothers.

Lauren Blackman, last seen at MSMT in “Legally Blonde” and “Sunset Boulevard,” plays Mary Poppins. Tyler Hanes, who starred in last season’s “42nd Street,” plays Bert. Jeff Coon and Heidi Kittenring as Mr. and Mrs. Banks, and Sophie Calerwood and Alec Shiman as Jane and Michael Banks star as the family under Mary Poppins’ tutelage. MSMT favorites Charis Leos, Sue Cella, David Girolmo and Chuck Ragsdale are featured in supporting roles.

The young and young-atheart will leave the theater singing such songs as “Chim Chim Cher-ee,” “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Feed the Birds” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”

“Mary Poppins” plays through Aug. 24 with an added matinee on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 2 p.m. For specific dates and availability, more information and to purchase tickets, call the MSMT box office at 725-8769, or visit www.msmt.org.
