TOPSHAM
Nomination papers for a three year seat on either the School Administrative District 75 Board of Directors or the Topsham Board of Selectmen.
Don Russell has a term expiring on the board of selectmen. He said that after 49 years of serving the town non-stop, he felt it was time to step aside and let someone else step in.
Russell said he has served on the board nine years and served on various other committees including the planning board and board of appeals.
“It’s been interesting,” he said, adding he hoped someone will run for his seat. “I’ve enjoyed it all. I just hope that someone is willing to step up.”
The town is in good shape, he added, “and it’s a good time to step down while things are good.”
The main challenge on the horizon, he said, will be addressing traffic and a waterfront park as part of the Lower Villlage development.
Dorothy Gardiner has a term expring on the SAD 75 school board, but plans to run again for one more term.
“Lord willing, I will take it on for three more years and that will be it,” she said last week.
Nomination papers are availalbe in the town clerk’s office at the municipal building and are due back in the clerk’s office by 4:30 p.m. Sept. 21.
The papers must include the signatures of at least 25 — but not more than 100 — qualified registered voters of the town of Topsham.
The election in Nov. 3.
