BRUNSWICK
Curtis Friends, Sisters in Crime and Maine Crime Writers are hosting an evening with Kathy Lynn Emerson to launch the 2015 Mystery Author Series at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, in the Morrell Meeting Room at Curtis Memorial Library. Free refreshments will be provided by the Bohemian Coffee House, and Gulf of Maine will have copies of Emerson’s books for sale.
The 2015 Mystery Author series will feature a number of other authors throughout September and October.
Writing under multiple pseudonyms, Emerson combines many authors and subgenres into one talented woman. Emerson writes the Face Down series that features Susanna, Lady Appleton, a 16th century gentlewoman, herbalist, and sleuth, and the Diana Spaulding series featuring a widowed, New York City theatrical journalist. As Kaitlyn Dunnett, she writes the present day Liss MacCrimmon Scottish-American Heritage mystery series that takes place in Moosetookalook, Maine. And as Kate Emerson, she writes non-mystery historical novels set in the 16th century. Her latest book, “Murder in the Queen’s Wardrobe”, is a spin-off of the Lady Appleton series.
The second mystery author of the series is Vaughn Hardacker, appearing on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Hardacker is a writer and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps who served in Vietnam.
He has completed five novels and numerous short stories. His two police novels, “Sniper” and “The Fishman” feature Boston homicide detectives, Mike Houston and his partner, Anne Bouchard.
Appearing on Tuesday, Oct. 6, is Clea Simon. Simon has three pet-related series: The Theda Krakow mystery series, the Dulcie Schwartz Feline Mysteries set in academia, and the Pru Marlowe Pet Noir series set in the Berkshires. In the spring of 2016, Savern House Books will launch Clea’s new, darker series, “The Ninth Life,” which features a homeless teen runaway and her cat. Clea is also the author of three nonfiction books, and her essays and mystery short stories appear in several anthologies. Clea is a regular contributor to the Boston Globe and her writing pops up occasionally in such publications as American Prospect, Ms., San Francisco Chronicle, and Salon.com.
The series will conclude on Tuesday, Oct. 20, with Jessie Crockett. Crocket is the author of two mystery series, The Granite State Mysteries and the Sugar Grove Mystery series. The Granite State Mystery series begins with “Live Free or Die” featuring Winslow Falls, New Hampshire volunteer fire chief, Gwen Fifield. The Sugar Grove Mystery series opener, “Drizzled with Death,” features Dani Greene, a fourth generation maple syrup maker.
