Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association hosts the Sheepscot Valley Family Festival in Sheepscot Village 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8.

The goal of this free event is to draw attention to the work of the SVCA and to bring community groups together from throughout the watershed to celebrate the Sheepscot River and all it has to offer.

The day of events and fun will take place in Newcastle at the SVCA Office and across the road at the Harriet Gertrude Bird Clubhouse & Community Center.

Festival events include a 5K Fun “Salmon Run,” a river paddle, kids’ activities and face painting, traditional family games, fly tying and casting demonstrations by the Kennebec Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited, a Chewonki Birds of Prey Program, Morris Farm 4-H with live animals and activities, touch tank, bird walks and activities, live music, lunch offerings, coffee and bake sales and more.

The Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association is a member organization advocating shared stewardship of Maine’s 58-mile Sheepscot River since 1969.

More than 3,633 acres and 15 miles of riverfront are protected.

The SVCA’s ongoing monitoring of water quality helps ensure the watershed’s ecosystems stay healthy, including its Atlantic salmon habitat, according to the group’s website.
