BRUNSWICK — Toshiko Goldsberry, 82 years old, died on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015, after a short illness. Toshiko was born on Nov. 2, 1932, in Negata, Japan. One of seven children, Toshiko was raised during WWII and had the immense responsibility of caring for her infirm mother and younger siblings at an early age. Toshiko’s surviving siblings and their families still live in Japan.

Toshiko met her life-long sweetheart, Robert Goldsberry, when he was stationed at Yokosuka, Japan. The couple was married on June 25, 1958, and resided in Coronado, California. Married for 57 years, Toshiko and Robert raised their three children, David, Janet and James, in various duty stations while Robert served in the U.S. Navy.

Throughout her life, Toshiko faithfully cared for family and friends. She was happiest when her loved ones were happy — she enjoyed cooking for her family, spending time with her grandchildren, playing with her cats, reading, gardening, quilting, making miniature furniture, and bird watching. She quietly gave the gift of joy to her family, friends, and acquaintances through her gentle, kind and caring nature; always putting others’ needs before her own.

Toshiko worked at Health- Tex, Arrow-Hart, and L.L. Bean as a stitcher. She also worked in the Mess Hall at the Naval Air Station in Brunswick.

Her surviving family members include her husband, Robert Goldsberry; her three children and their partners, David and Robbie Goldsberry, Tim and Janet Brewer, and James Goldsberry; and her four grandchildren, Sunny Goldsberry, Sam Goldsberry, Leah Goldsberry and Max Goldsberry.
