PORTLAND — Residents in the West End were without power for nearly three hours this evening.

Outages were reported to Central Maine Power around 4:25 p.m. in the West End district, spokesman John Carroll said. In order to restore power, crews had to turn off power to a whole circuit. This resulted in a total of 3,083 customers losing power, he said.

The cause of the outage was not pinpointed, Carroll said, but Central Maine Power suspects there was a tree limb interfering with power lines. Power was restored to residents shortly after 7 p.m.

Crews are still working to repair a transformer in a substation to restore power to areas of Appleton, Hope, Rockport and Union. Carroll said power is expected to be restored later tonight.

Central Maine Power will update its hotline as information comes in.
