THE YARMOUTH COMMUNITY Garden Harvest Dinner features pasta primavera, meatballs, mixed green salad, artisan bread and warm apple crisp a la mode. Kids take home free pumpkins. Proceeds go to next year’s garden, which donates all produce to food pantries, senior housing and Meals on Wheels.

Cheesy — and really good
COLUMBUS DAY WEEKEND is the perfect time to combine a leaf-peeping road trip with, um, cheese. Maine makes more than 150 artisan cheeses, and on Open Creamery Day, you can visit the cheesemakers in their creameries to see how it’s done.
