ORONO — Ron Rogerson, who coached the University of Maine football team from 1981-84 and led them to the 1983 Yankee Conference title, is being honored this weekend.

Rogerson, who died in August 1987 at 44, is being honored as part of UMaine’s Football Alumni Weekend. Alumni from Rogerson’s time coaching in Orono organized a series of events including a dinner and golf outing to reconnect with his family and recognize Rogerson’s impact.

CCurrent Black Bears coach Jack Cosgrove says Rogerson had a great impact on the players he coached in Orono. Cosgrove says Rogerson is being honored during a very important weekend on Maine’s 2010 schedule, as the Black Bears play host to the University of New Hampshire today.

After leaving Maine, Rogerson took the head coaching position at Princeton.
