Black Bears wipe out early one-goal deficit to post conference win in women’s soccer

The University of Maine rallied to beat Vermont 2-1 Thursday in an America East Conference women’s soccer game at Orono.

Lisa Bijman scored the winner in the 65th minute. Haley Marks gave the Catamounts (1-10, 0-2 America East) the lead in the 12th minute, and the Black Bears (5-4, 1-1) tied the game late in the half on a goal by Maggie Malone.

Maine goalie Iris Gunnarsdottir made three saves.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: The University of Maine was selected as one of the 114 teams that will play a game in the ESPN BracketBusters, a three-day event featuring NCAA tournament hopefuls Feb. 18-20.

Austin Rivers, the son of Boston Celtics Coach Doc Rivers and one of the nation’s most highly recruited players, said he will attend Duke.

FOOTBALL: Shaun Lewis intercepted Jerrod Johnson in the final seconds and Dan Bailey kicked a 40-yard field goal as time expired to lift Oklahoma State to a 38-35 victory over Texas A&M at Stillwater, Okla.

WORLD EXTREME CAGEFIGHTING: Portland native Mike Brown scored a first-round TKO over Cole Province in a featherweight bout at Broomfield, Colo.

Brown (24-6), the former WEC featherweight champion, floored Province before the referee stopped the match 1:18 into the round.
