FREEPORT — The Freeport Community Library will feature the work of local artist Wren Pearson during October in its main reading room.
A self-taught artist from a family of painters and woodcarvers, Pearson combines the simplicity of traditional folk art with the borderless reaches of outsider art to create whimsical and contemplative pieces influenced by the cultures and palette of the American Southwest.
The exhibit will include paintings, sculpture and photography that have sprung from lives in Texas, Florida and Maine.
“Works from Fuego Diablo” is an extension of the arts studio Fuego Diablo, a creative venue in Pownal started by Wren and her husband, composer and musician Jamie Pearson, upon their arrival in Maine in September 2012.
Fuego Diablo currently hosts monthly open mic music nights for local performers, and the venue will expand in 2014 to include art workshops, gallery shows and popup boutique sales of vintage linens, clothing and jewelry.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
