2 found with gunshots to the head in RI

NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — Newport police are investigating a shooting that left two men with gunshot wounds to the head.

WPRI-TV reports that both victims were taken to the hospital with serious injuries following the shooting at about 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Capt. Russell Hayes says it appears that the men knew each other and were involved in an argument.

Police are speaking with witnesses.

Hayes says one of the men may have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. One bullet was recovered from the scene.

No names were immediately released.

Fundraiser created for drowned MA teen

WESTFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A fundraiser has been set up in memory of a teenager who police say drowned in the Westfield River last weekend.

Westfield police say 14- year-old David Shovgan, of Chicopee, was swimming with friends Sunday afternoon near the Great River Bridge when he went under the water.

Rescuers found the boy about 20 to 30 minutes later and rushed him to Baystate Noble Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

WGGB-TV reports that a fundraiser has been created through YouCaring.com. The webpage says he will be deeply missed by his mother and father and his four brothers and six sisters.

David was the youngest of the 11 children.

His funeral is scheduled for Sept. 26.

Man killed by MA train

BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Fire Department says a man is dead after he was hit and killed by a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority train.

Authorities say the man, who is between 50 and 60 years old, became pinned under a Red Line train at the JFK/UMass Station Monday around 2:30 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
