From the Journal Tribune: “A few Middle School of the Kennebunks students found out last week that challenges can be good for the soul and good for coming together as a class. Students in the middle school’s alternative education program, known as S.T.A.R.S. (Students Taking Alternative Routes to Success), recently spent three days at a retreat designed to build teamwork by teaching them to know themselves and one another a little better.”

50 years ago

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “(Old Orchard Beach) Town Manager Leon F. Jones was authorized to contract with the State Highway Commission for the reconstruction of the two-lane cement State Aid road on East Grand Avenue. The present construction will include excavating the existing sandy soft shoulder, filling with gravel and allowing this to settle during the winter months, Jones said.”

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “It was City Clerk Locke’s turn last evening and neighbors did the affair up brown, suprising the urbane official so that for some moments he lost all power of speech. It was at his home on Bradbury street and he had set himself down for a few short hours of meditation on the eve of his marriage, when there came a gentle ring at the bell and on response they began to troop in, neighbors and friends to the number of 69.”
