WALDOBORO
ELIZABETH WELLS is the winner of an Apple iPad recently raffled off by the Waldoboro Public Library Board of Trustees. The limited-ticket raffle raised $3,000 to benefit the Waldoboro Public Library.
PORTLAND
FRIENDS OF THE EASTERN PROMENADE were awarded funding through the Quimby Family Foundation Grant for completion of the Loring Memorial Trail on the northwest side of the park. With help from Portland Trails and the city of Portland, construction is under way to replace a formerly steep and rugged corridor with clear pathways and recycled-granite curbing as steps where necessary. During the luncheon reception where the grant was presented, a total of 91 organizations were beneficiaries of this funding program.
A grand opening trail celebration for the improvements is scheduled for Oct. 21 with historian Herb Adams as guest speaker.
NORWAY
NORWAY MEMORIAL LIBRARY is opening a room for students in grades 7-12 from 2 to 5 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays. The space offers computers, wireless Internet service, a study area, after-school activities, a snack zone and gaming.
