LISBON — Lisbon is set to open the for business when it comes to medical marijuana retail.
After a public hearing, the town council expects to repeal a moratorium on the facilities. Town Councilors enacted a 6-month moratorium at the beginning of September, but planners have been working on to set new regulations for businesses dealing in marijuana.
Citing an interest in town among potential business owners, councilors decided to have a special meeting Tuesday to have a final review of the new rules and vote on whether to opt in to medical marijuana businesses.
The ordinance would go into effect 21 days after that meeting, two weeks earlier than initially planned. With new zoning regulations in place, allowing the operations in mostly commercial parts of town, Lisbon is ready to move forward.
If approved, the moratorium will be repealed on Nov. 21. New state legislation gives local municipalities the option of allowing medical marijuana storefronts, but the law won’t go into effect until Dec. 13.
The public hearing and town council meeting is set for 7 p.m. at the Lisbon town office.
