The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch today for eight Maine counties and most of the rest of New England and part of New York.
In Maine, the watch extends to Androscoggin, Cumberland, Franklin, Kennebec, Lincoln, Oxford, Sagadahoc and York counties.
The watch is in effect until 10 p.m. today.
Severe thunderstorms are expected tonight with hail and wind gusts up to 70 mph.
