He grew up in the Portland area, served three years in the U.S. Army, and attended the University of Southern Maine. Don worked in the software trade, most recently at Boise Cascade of Idaho at their Biddeford location.
Don enjoyed his job and working with his many coworkers. He loved spending time with family and friends. He was a care giver, a loving father, grandfather, and husband. Don loved being at home cooking for family and especially sitting outside on his deck on a sunny day. He also enjoyed hearing about his children’s many interests and hobbies … and his wife’s obsession with antiques.
He is survived by: his wife, Margaret of nearly 30 years; his two sons, Chris and Tim; two daughters, Jen and Amy; three brothers, Bob, Ted, and Rod; a sister, Judy; and grandchildren Madilyn, Justice, Jada, Katreana, Skyler, and Dalton. Don also had many extended family members.
A private military honors service will be held at the Southern Maine Veteran’s Cemetery in Springvale.
Arrangements are with Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service of Buxton. Online condolence messages can be submitted at the funeral home’s website at www.mainefuneral.com

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
