From the Journal Tribune: “Little girls, heads ringed with curls, throw their hands into the air and blow kisses from tiny lips. Women, children and boys execute perfect turns, all the while a smile pasted on their faces. Fifty dancers ages 6 to 63 groove to the song ‘Celebration,’ made famous in the 1980’s by Kool and the Gang, in their final dress rehearsal at Steppin’ Out dance studio Sunday morning.”

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “Roy Wilkins, the executive secretary of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People says that housing, employment and education are the biggest problems facing Negro’s in Maine. Wilkins made the remarks Saturday to the Bangor branch of the NAACP. He said he was ‘disappointed’ with recent housing legislation because it allows landlords ‘to be law abiding, but still discriminating.’”

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “Deputy Sheriff Thomas Cullinan suprised a gathering at the home of Miss Leonie St. Cyr at 14 Emery street, Saturday afternoon about 5 o’clock and made a seizure of a half barrel of bock beer which the deputy claimed the woman was selling. The beer was hauled to the rum room and Mrs. St. Cyr was ordered to appear in the police court Tuesday morning to answer to a search and seizure charge.”
