From the Journal Tribune: “A 24-hour event organized to shine a light on the plight of Maine’s homeless population will take place from 9 a.m. Feb. 15 through 9 a.m. Feb. 16 at the York County Shelter Programs, Inc. Organized by the Region I Council on Homelessness, a coalition established by the Governor and comprised of organizations that serve Maine’s homeless population, the event is part outdoor vigil, part radio broadcast.”

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “Almost all persons 65 and older who get social security or railroad retirement benefits will automatically qualify for the hospital insurance part of health insurance, commonly known as Medicare.”

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “George Kimball, the last surviving member of Company A, 12th Massachusetts infantry, died in Lexington, Mass., Thursday of heart disease. He was for 41 years with the Boston Journal, and more recently a clerk in the state house. Mr. Kimball was born in Saco on August 8, 1840. He received his education in the schools of Saco and Biddeford. At the age of 16 he entered the employ of what is now the Biddeford Journal. Mr. Kimball’s war record was one rarely equaled, as he took part in 23 battles in under three years. He was wounded at Gettysburg and Fredericksburg.”
