PORTLAND — A Londonderry, N.H., man was found guilty today in U.S. District Court in a case in which he was accused of breaking into a couple’s Saco home where his wife was staying and shooting both his wife and the male head of household.
Gregory Owens, 59, was convicted of federal charges of interstate domestic violence and discharging a firearm during, and in relation to, a crime of violence. Prosecutors alleged that Owens tried to kill his wife, who had a debilitating illness, because he wanted a more adventerous life. At the time of the shooting, Owens was seeing another woman in Wisconsin.
“We’re very pleased with the verdict,” said U.S. Assistant Attorney Darcie McElwee. She said she and fellow prosecuter U.S. Assistant Attorney James Chapman felt the evidence supported the jury’s findings. “It was an emotional case, a lot of work, and a lot of personal relationships involved. So, it was stressful.”
