PORTLAND — And then there were three.
The finalists for the 47th annual Fitzpatrick Trophy — which goes to the state’s top high school senior football player — were announced on Tuesday and three standouts made the cut, including one athlete in the Journal Tribune coverage area.
Wells senior running back/linebacker Nolan Potter, who led the Warriors to their second straight state title a few weeks ago, was named a finalist along with Scarborough running back Owen Garrard and Falmouth quarterback Jack Bryant.
Potter ran for 1,390 yards and 28 touchdowns while also racking up over 100 tackles and forcing four fumbles.
Garrard finished with 1,119 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground. He also had five receptions for 78 yards and one score. The Red Storm standout had 68 tackles and one interception from his linebacker position.
Bryant threw for 1,509 yards and 17 touchdowns, and also had 1,036 rushing yards and 18 scores on the ground.
The winner will be announced on Sunday, Jan. 14 at a banquet held at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
