SPRINGVALE — For those who enjoy fishing any time of year — and especially those who enjoy fishing in the winter, there are a couple of derbies coming up to test your expertise of ice fishing.
• The York County Ice Fishing Derby takes place on Sunday, Jan. 28, hosted by Springvale Fish and Game Association. Fishermen may fish any lake open to ice fishing in York County. Weigh-in takes place at the foot of Mousam Lake on Route 109 in Shapleigh from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. People may sign up anytime at Beadle’s Bait & Tackle or Lakeside Marina, both on Route 109. There wil be cash prizes for both adults and kids. The tourney benefits Bryant Pond Conservation Camp. For more information, go to: springvalefishandgame.org.
• The 9th Annual Square Pond Fishing Derby to benefit the Maine Children’s Cancer Program is set for Feb. 18. Hosted by Sanford Elks, the event is 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Square Pond, off West Shore Drive in Acton. Registration is from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. The cost is $20 for adults and $10 for kids.
